SaWi - connecting sanitation demands to markets in Europe

SaWi is developed and initiated by WASTE and Aqua for All. It connects demand for safe and sustainable sanitation solutions in developing and emerging economies/ markets to Dutch and European based private companies by offering matchmaking services, tailor-made supportive solutions and local networks. SaWi works in two ways: it finds solutions for a clear demand that already exists and it develops markets for solutions that are still unknown in sanitation. One way or the other: SaWi is a dealmaker!

What we do

SaWi is developed and initiated by WASTE and Aqua for All. It connects demand for safe and sustainable sanitation solutions in developing and emerging economies/ markets to Dutch and European based private companies by offering matchmaking services, tailor-made supportive solutions and local networks. SaWi works in two ways: it finds solutions for a clear demand that already exists and it develops markets for solutions that are still unknown in sanitation. One way or the other: SaWi is a dealmaker!

Why?

More than 2.5 billion people lack access to adequate sanitation. At the current rate of progress, the MDG sanitation target – to halve the proportion of the population without sustainable access to safe drinking water and basic sanitation by 2015 - will not be met until 2026. Half the population in developing countries is still without adequate sanitation. There is a need for action!

For the first time, scientific evidence of a direct correlation between sanitation and increase Gross Domestic Product is available. Safe sanitation cannot only save lives, it can also create jobs and offer business opportunities!

For who?

There is a serious demand in low-income and emerging markets for scalable sanitation solutions. Not only for latrines or toilets, but particularly for solutions that include the whole sanitation (value) chain (i.e. logistical planning services, treatment and disposal solutions or processing technologies making human excreta available for the production of fertilizers or biogas). Solutions for this demand are not always locally available. Where to get them?

Private businesses around the world offer tangible solutions that fill in the standing demand for safe and sustainable sanitation. These businesses are looking for new markets and business opportunities elsewhere, for new ways to implement their CSR strategy or for locations to test innovations. But where to go, what are the risks, how to connect, who to reach out to, who to trust, what are the do’s and don’ts in other cultures and politics?

SaWi works in two ways: it finds solutions for a clear demand that already exists or it develops markets for solutions that are still unknown. One way or the other: SaWi is a dealmaker!

How we do it

Through WASTE, SaWi has access to a solid base of almost 30 years of experience in urban and peri-urban sanitation and solid waste sector, numerous projects, management expertise and local connections and partner networks in the sanitation and waste sector. Through Aqua for All,  SaWi has a strong network in the Dutch private sector.
